GO AWAY SORROW OF THE WORLD
The duo of Belgian artists Frank&Robbert Robbert&Frank will be presenting GO AWAY SORROW OF THE WORLD at the Erasmus House Museum from 6 November 2026 to 7 March. “Go Away Sorrow of the World” is much more than a title; it is a mantra that that has accompanied Frank Merkx and Robbert Goyvaerts for several years now. Repeated, translated, performed or incarnated in constantly renewed forms, it has followed them across Europe and beyond, changing in contact with the languages, cultures, places and people that they encounter. Their work is never carved in stone – it moves with the flow of each new experience.
The two artists live in Ghent, where they cultivate a transdisciplinary art form at the crossroads of sculpture, performance and theatre, a place where craftmanship and contemporary technology converse. Their profoundly poetic work strives to create true nearness to the spectator, who is asked not only to look at, but also to enter into the experience. In tirelessly questioning the status of the artist, the pair explores new ways of creating and showing their art buoyed by trial and error, perseverance and humour.
This mantra resounds with new tones today at Erasmus House. In settling in this house that has been lived in for more than 500 years, a place where Erasmus, whose heritage continues to irrigate contemporary thinking, stayed in 1521, this exhibition is a new milestone in the artists’ travels.
